05.13.2025: Composition as Process

I have been making art since 2008. I always considered my music to be more akin to art than something that belongs in the music industry.

This month, May 2025, I feel like I finally found my true artistic voice across mediums:

  • Sound composition
  • Painting
  • Digital art

It continues to be a journey but this has been the biggest development since I chose to become a full time artist in 2022.

I’ve titled this ongoing collection, “Composition as Process”.

My work has always been process driven. I am methodical about the skeletal framework of the process, but within that there is endless room for improvisation and indeterminance.

This new process is very material driven.

Composition as Process is an ongoing collection of artwork in 4 parts:

  1. C00X (Works on Canvas)
  2. B00X (Works on Burlap)
  3. Palimpsest (00X – Phase X)
  4. NMWE 00X (No Matter What Eventuality)

I intend to iterate and develop this collection over the foreseeable future.

C00X (Works on Canvas)

These works are the final product of using burlap as a painting tool, akin to granular synthesis in electronic music production, on traditional cotton canvas with white gesso.

B00X (Works on Burlap)

These works are on burlap, used previously as a tool, now transformed into a medium.

Works on Canvas and Works on Burlap are shown together modularly, showcasing the beauty in the contrast that emerges throughout the process.

Palimpsest (00X – Phase X)

These are digital snapshots of the burlap through its phases as a tool, before the final work is catalyzed into B00X.

They exist as different phases, minted as 1/1 digital assets.

These are a digital aspect of the collection and are not directly represented in the exhibition form.

NMWE 00X (No Matter What Eventuality)

These are “sound spaces” or sound compositions.

Though the sounds are sourced organically, the processing embraces random algorithms and binaural spatialization. The compositions are generally between 20 minutes to 2 hours long.

They are shown with the visual works (and available separately to stream or download).

And so, Composition as Process begins and continues on, variating the configurations but keeping the process intact and watching expression of the timeless through the temporal unfold.

I’m blessed to be working with some very cool people who are interested in showing the work in 2 beautiful cities in 2025 and 2026. I will be sure to keep everyone updated on those plans.

Back to work!
