I created the Exile Series pictures while reflecting on my paternal family’s escape from the Russian Pogroms in the 1880s. They relocated to the United States, forced to change their name, feel shame about their background, and survive in a new land with a new language and culture. Their experience resonates through my ancestral history and I attempted to channel those hidden feelings into these works.
